THE MISSION /miSHen/ – noun – an important assignment to be carried out…
At South Spring Baptist, every member is a minister (and learning to live that out more and more all of the time). Every member is on mission.
When we go to accomplish the ministry, we are on mission. The very life of a Christian, no matter where they are – home, neighborhood, church, homeless shelter, grocery store, foreign country – As Jesus followers, we have been given a mission. Want to see it?
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20,ESV) …These are the words of Jesus Christ Himself – some of His very last words while He was on Earth incarnate.
That is called the great “co-mission” (our mission together).
The “mission” of our mission ministry (how redundant is that?) is therefore, to mobilize believers to share the Gospel of Christ through establishing and supporting missions and ministries across various frontiers… to reach out into our community – here and far away – to be a blessing to the world.
Our Missions team exists to empower the member/ministers of the church to expand the word and bear witness to Jesus Christ by sponsoring or participating in projects for those in need in the community, the state, and the world.
We send and we go.
We were able to fulfill part of our vision last year by donating to many projects which included our community, state, and foreign countries. Further, members of our church were directly involved in those! A minimum of 10% of our entire giving to South Spring goes to mission ministries –those dollars are spread far and wide.
Each year, we take several overseas short term trips; we staff a couple of camps for foster children, we come alongside other ministries and churches, we host community events (Highland Games, Fireworks, Outdoorsmen Event, etc.) but even moreso, seek to live out lives saturated by that mission – going, teaching, making disciples, baptizing in the Name of God!
