“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” – Psalm 150:6
APPETIZER
- Have someone read Psalm 150
- SAY: We are now going to take a test. Everyone hold your hand open in front of your mouth and then make a “haah” sound. (do this all together).
- ASK: Did you feel something? (yes) What does that mean about you? (I have breath)
- ASK: So what did verse 6 say you are to do if you have breath? (Praise the Lord)
MAIN COURSE
- Now have someone read Psalm 78:1-4.
- This passage talks about passing on stories from generation to generation of what God has done (“the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done”).
- SAY: As a family, what amazing stories do we have about God that we want to make sure are passed on to our children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren? To do this, everyone think of one example of something we must remember and pass on (ex: an answered prayer, a time God protected us, an instance where everything worked out so perfectly that it was clearly God at work, etc.) and then we’ll each share this with the whole family. (parents, you especially need to pass on your stories!)
- Give everyone a chance to think and then go around and share your stories.
TABLE TALK (QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS AND WRAP UP)
- Deuteronomy 4:9 says, “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”
- How can we, as a family, remember these stories we’ve shared today? (you might want to write these ideas down)
- Close your time in prayer, thanking God for His faithfulness.
