“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” – Proverbs 16:3
APPETIZER
- Who can describe all the things you have to remember or pay attention to while you drive a car? (speed, rear mirror, looking where you are going, paying attention to all the signs, etc.)
- What could happen if you looked in your rearview mirror most of the time you were driving?
- What could happen if you only always looked straight ahead as you drove?
MAIN COURSE
- As we go through life, God tells us to pay attention to what we hear in the Bible (Heb 2:1; 2 Pet 1:19) and to look carefully how we live (Eph 5:15). Like driving a car, we need to…
- Look back – what is your favorite thing from this past year that you or our family did? Did anyone make a new special friend? What was the favorite book you read? Who grew the most this past year? Did anyone lose teeth, and how many?
- Look ahead – what is one thing you are looking forward to this coming year?
- Pay attention to how other passengers are doing – what is something you want prayer for right now?
- Know where you’re going – what is something you are going to improve on this coming year?
- Psalm 90:1-2 says, “Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” How should this verse be a comfort to us, no matter what this next year holds?
