I actually talked about this with Kathryn last night!
Several years ago, my daughter, Allison, who was about 13, had a sleep over with a friend, and her dad was a pastor.
She came home and told me that the pastor and his family had to work in the temple after the service. (no darts, please!).
Meanwhile, the girls got hungry. The pastor told them to eat the sacraments, and they did.
I was so mad! I talked to a friend a few days later, and this was his response.
“Were they hungry ?”
I realized that it was all about the intent. It wasn’t the body, or the blood. It was crackers and juice for them.
Too often…and I’m incriminating myself…we jump to judgment, and I’m so guilty of it. The response should always be,” Are you hungry?” That’s what we need to be aware of, and what we need to be offering. Jesus gives us the Cheez-its and the Oreos. We (I) need to stop acting like they’re off-limits.
On Cheez-its and Oreos…
